Team Tandem

  Cole nickel   cole is one of tandem’s founders. he has been immersed in carpentry for 7 years, working with other companies prior to co-founding tandem with dean and taigan. he is accredited with an interprovincial red seal in carpentry.  interior and exterior finishing work are cole’s specialty and he has a knack for executing them perfectly. Cole enjoys the challenge of problem solving and adapting to situations when things don’t go exactly as planned.  outside of work, cole exercises his creativity by building furniture and woodworking. He also enjoys the mental clarity experienced while bodybuilding and fishing.

  dean comerford   Dean is one of Tandem’s founders. He lives and breathes carpentry, having been in the industry for 22 years. His first major project was a home that he built with his uncle when he was only 16 years old - the beginning of a passionate career. Dean is accredited with an interprovincial red seal in carpentry as well as a Renewable Resource Technologies degree in Forestry.  Prior to co-founding Tandem, Dean worked as a Lead Carpenter and Site Super for several years. Now, Dean works as the financial controller and a project manager for Tandem. He thrives on always increasing the company’s quality standard, leading with example as he trains Tandem’s apprentice carpenters.   When he’s not taking care of business, Dean loves to spend time outdoors enjoying all the natural thrills Vancouver has to offer through hiking, biking and skiing.

  taigan allerton   Taigan is one of tandem’s founders. he is accredited with an interprovincial red seal in carpentry, studied construction management at bcit, and maintains continuing professional development (CPD) as required by BC Housing.  having been in the industry for 10 years while also constantly pursuing further knowledge, taigan is multi-disciplined with experience in carpentry, electrical and design. this vast breadth of knowledge contributes to taigan’s proven excellence as a construction professional, leading his team and the trades with confidence by communicating well with clients, architects and designers.  outside of work, taigan loves to take advantage of our beautiful local surroundings, taking it all in while skiing, fishing and mountain biking. he also plays hockey and softball in local recreational teams.

  IAIN PEARSALL   Iain (pronounced Ian, thank you very much) has been in the construction industry for 6 years, working for a development company before joining Tandem in 2016. He is currently in his last year of his Carpentry apprenticeship program at BCIT, working towards his red seal.  Iain enjoys the variety of work he can get involved in with carpentry from concrete pours to finishing work, but in his own words - “Nothing beats figuring out a beautiful set of stairs.”  Iain loves woodworking so much that he continues to hone his skills on more creative projects outside of work time. He also loves hiking, weightlifting and the thrill of off-roading.

Outside of the job site, Mark loves THE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL CHALLENGES OF weightlifting. HE LOVES TO SPEND TIME OUTDOORS, GOING skiing IN THE WINTER and going on adventures on his motorcycle IN THE SUMMER..

  TAYLER ireland   Tayler worked in construction doing paving for about 7 years prior to pursuing carpentry for the last 4 years. He has been with tandem since 2016. He is currently in the 2nd year of his carpentry apprenticeship, working towards his red seal.  Tayler loves that carpentry is so multi-faceted and enjoys the variety of work he is able to do. However, the ability to create something beautiful combined with his high attention to detail makes finishing carpentry Tayler’s favourite.  Outside of work, Tayler has an intrepid spirit, taking every opportunity he can to explore. He is a certified scuba diving instructor, and with this skill he was able to dive and travel the world for 4 years. He also loves to ski and is now learning to sail so he can conquer the oceans both above and below the water.
